Aurubis Finland Invests in Pori Production and Green Energy – Advancing Efficient and Responsible Industry in Satakunta

Aurubis Finland Oy is investing a total of EUR 9 million in the introduction of a new production line at its Pori facility. At the same time, the company has transitioned to using only CO₂-free electricity as of the beginning of 2025 and is expanding its own solar energy production. These actions reinforce the company’s commitment to both regional industrial growth and its sustainability goals.

Aurubis Finland announces €9 million machinery investment to strengthen production

Aurubis Finland Oy, part of the international Aurubis Group, has announced a €9 million investment in new production machinery at its Pori site. The investment will enhance process safety and quality, increase production capacity, and improves delivery performance.

The new equipment is planned to be fully operational in 2027.
This development supports Aurubis Group’s broader goals for sustainable growth, operational excellence, and future readiness.
“This investment is a strong signal of our long-term commitment to the Pori site, the Satakunta region, and our international customer base,” says Reima Mäkelä, Managing director at Aurubis Finland Oy.
Aurubis Finland delivers high-quality copper products to global customers, with 95% of output exported.

Aurubis Finland transitions to CO₂-free electricity and invests in solar energy

Starting January 1, 2025, Aurubis Finland has only been using CO₂-free electricity at its production site in Pori. The move is part of the company’s long-term sustainability strategy and will significantly reduce its carbon footprint.

In addition, Aurubis Finland has installed and activated 150 solar panels on-site. Almost all forklifts used at the facility had already been converted to electric-powered models.

“We are steadily reducing our emissions while investing in energy-efficient and sustainable solutions. Our goal is to lead the way in responsible production,” says Miia Kiviö, Head of Quality, Environment and Product Development, Aurubis Finland Oy

These initiatives directly support the Aurubis Group’s commitment to reduce Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 50% by 2030.

A Strong Message to Satakunta – and to the World

This is both a technological and strategic leap forward that highlights the company’s long-term commitment to Pori and Satakunta, while also strengthening its position in international markets.

Aurubis Finland exports 95% of its production and is part of the international Aurubis Group, one of Europe’s leading copper producers and recyclers.

Aurubis rolls out next-gen ERP

By | Uncategorized

Aurubis Finland Factory Pori

Aurubis is undertaking a major ERP renewal, with its Pori plant in Finland acting as the pilot site. Replacing an ageing system with a next-generation platform will keep day-to-day operations running smoothly and securely while boosting productivity and delivery reliability. The upgrade will also give Aurubis the agility to develop new, customer-driven services. The project is on schedule and the new system is slated to go live in October 2025.

“This is the core system that steers Aurubis’s business. It covers everything from order entry, production planning, procurement and metal calculation to finance and reporting processes, as well as product quality and delivery processes to a great extent,” explains Perttu Heinilä, the Strategic Project Manager heading the renewal project.

The legacy solution is being replaced by SAP S/4HANA, implemented in partnership with NTT Data, whose extensive metals-industry expertise includes developing specialised add-ons for metal processing.

Turning tacit knowledge into automated rules

Currently, some 20 other systems are connected to Aurubis’s ERP solution; the modernisation will cut that number in half.

“Many tasks can now be automated. For example, the tacit knowledge that currently exists only in a planner’s head when a new product is designed can be converted into rules that run automatically inside the system,” Heinilä says.

“Beyond streamlining office workflows, the change will flow through to the shop floor as more accurate, timely production data – ultimately improving product quality and on-time delivery.”

“During this project we have the chance to develop far more productive solutions, primarily for office‐based processes, but ideally these will also show up in production as higher-quality, better-timed input data.”

The benefits extend to customers as well. Whether they need specific product documentation or digital value-added services, Aurubis will soon be able to fulfil those requests quickly and seamlessly.

An “athletic” timetable – yet firmly on track

The Pori pilot kicked off in early 2024, with go-live set for October 2025. Once proven, the same blueprint will be rolled out to Aurubis’s Stolberg plant in Germany.

The timetable is tight – “athletic,” as Heinilä puts it – yet progress remains on track.

“That said, this isn’t a short sprint. In running terms it’s a marathon, and in orienteering terms it’s a long-distance event,” he laughs.

There are plenty of moving parts, for example building interfaces down to shop-floor systems is particularly demanding, but Heinilä trusts the combined expertise of his multidisciplinary team and NTT Data. With strong collaboration, even a complex project like this can cross the finish line smoothly.
